A large heron, found along slow flowing rivers in low elevations, quite common around river mouths, estuaries, marshes and mangroves. Also found in wet pastures. Its deep roaring sound my be also a good reason for its name "Tiger-Heron" although the barring on most of the body is perhaps the main reason "Tigrisoma - Tigri=Tiger Soma=Body". Feeds on fish, crabs, small snakes, eals, small turtles, little baby caimans and crocodiles. Quite a predator!
